Lockdown locomotion involved running the combined length of all of Cornwall’s active railway lines and the ‘Trevithick Trail’ in Merthyr Tydfil, 148 miles in total. Organised by Bys Vyken this event took place between 6 Nov to 18 Dec 2020
Ian, Craig, Dave, Julie, Kerri and Fran have already set off. Who knows they might get to complete part of their virtual route on the actual coast path. Good luck all BRRs.
11 miles trail running along the coast and the inland of the West Cornwall Peninsula, taking in the breathtaking views of St Michaels Mount to Trencrom, Ninnes Bridge, Knill’s Monument, St Uny church and St Ives Bay, Mount’s Bay and my personal favourites, ‘The Pointless Hill’ & a near mile of shingle beach to finish on!
There are wonderfully undulating sections such as Trencrom which stands at almost 560ft, and farmland that creeps toward the 600 mark. With over 1,500ft of elevation, expect most of it in the first half alone! It doesn’t end there though as not only will Trencrom hopefully be back in 2021 (NT licensing during covid dependant), there will also be that mighty shitey hill in Ludgvan to run down and then back up! 13th July 2020 – 17 intrepid Bodmin Road Runners set off to run from Lands End to John O’Groats (LEJOG 3). Ian Ringer ran the Wales Coast Path (870 miles) and finished in 105th place.
The early mist cleared and as the sun began to break through somebody shouted go but the website crashed. And nobody knew where anybody was. Fran threw his toys out of the pram and got his knickers in such a twist as runners posted their progress on the map. The organisers asked for calm and time to mend their app as people kept on running, past Sennen and the first & last pub. Onto Penzance and past St Michael’s Mount running through the drive in because the restaurant at McDonalds is closed. Up the A30 and off to Camborne & Redruth mindful as not to stop in case someone nicked yer trainers. Some stopped over at Healey’s Cider Farm whilst others took photos of little red symbols on make believe maps, chuffed to find a speech bubble with their name, position, miles, and location. This virtual challenge pays no heed to the rain, the sun and the heat as we head towards John O Groats on two little feet.
Good luck everybody – Fran

Well done to all Bodmin Road Runners who took part, suspect several runners sneaked in some bonus miles and hills
